Hangin' with Mummy

The days when boob juice would knock the kid out!

The cutest little feet.
I just can't help wanting to kiss them.
There I go again kissing the bottoms of his feet even though he hates it.

7 Lbs April 28

At Matthew's four week pediatricians visit we found out that he hit the 7lb mark (the day before he weighed 6 13.5) so he is officially growing like a weed.
Making faces like he would like to eat again soon.
Contemplating the big universal questions: when do I get to eat again, should I poo now or wait until I have a clean diaper on?

My Favorite Picture

Snuggles with Mummy and Daddy

What is possibly better than snuggling in for a nap with a teeny baby?
Out Cold
Napping on the couch after crying the day Nana and Papa left.
Sleeping with Daddy in the chair while he watches TV.
now all we have to do is figure out how to break us all of this bad habit

Key on Foot

First Bath April 19th

Finally Matthew's umbilical cord fell off and his belly button healed enough that we were able to give him a real bath. He didn't seem to enjoy this one very much but he has been very relaxed in the subsequent ones.

Thanks to the Monahans for this great bath tub seat.
Gotta clean out the toe jam.

It's a little foggy in here.
Close up through the fog.
Curly hair.
Cute curls that appear when we wash Matthew's hair.

Meeting the Rest of the Family

One afternoon we put Matthew on the floor to take some pictures with his blankets and were joined by the critters.
MMMM the lovely smell of babies.

All babies should be licked regularly. So far I've managed to keep the dog's tongue off Matthew's face.
Very carefully getting a closer look.
Mo has been very uncertain about this whole thing from the very beginning. We even got a hiss out of him when we first came home.
Archie thinks this baby smells really good. When he comes in the house now the first thing he does is find his baby.
Just chillin together.

Nana and Papa

Nana and Papa arrived on the second afternoon we were in the hospital and have stayed to help out. Having a C-section was much more difficult than I had ever anticipated and they have been a godsend for a multitude of reasons. They have not only spent many hours snuggling with Matthew but they have done laundry, bought groceries, cooked meals, cleaned windows and done a ton of work in the yard on the nice days. I can't imagine doing this baby thing without all their love and support. It looks like they will be going home in a few days. They will be missed greatly for another multitude of reasons but we were bound to have to do this on our own eventually.

Nana with Matthew tucked into her shirt to keep his toes warm
On his first walk Nana manned the stroller as it is still a little much for me to push through the rough grass. Nana is so in love with this kid it is hard to keep her hands off him (this is a good thing)
Papa and Matthew relaxing together. He was always willing to snuggle if Nana would let him. Dad also did soooo much out in the yard that it would have taken me a month to do it all.

We can't thank Nana and Papa enough for coming to stay for the month. Their support has been priceless. Hopefully we'll see them again soon.

17 Days

There was such a big difference over the last few days we had to take some pictures.

Lawn Mower

When Colleen and Curtis came for a visit they were kind enough to buy us a couple of much needed "baby" gifts. One of them was a bookshelf for Matthew's room, the other was a new lawnmower (which Dad and Mum also chipped in for).
Aaron tried to sneak out to assemble it himself but in no time flat both Dad and Dennis were there to help. The draw of a shiny new tool was undeniable.
As you can see Aaron was pretty much sidelined while the others took over. At one point he was sent to fetch the gas can for Dennis.
Ahh, there it is in all its glory.
Let's see if it will start. Yep, only took one pull.
It works really well, our lawn hasn't looked this good since we moved in. Thank you so much everyone for helping us keep up with the neighbours (with their fancy new houses and all!).

Exactly Two Weeks Old

Daddy took some portraits on his two week birthday.

At this point he had his two week check up and he weighed 5lbs 14.5 oz. That is an 8oz increase in six days.
He's just the cutest, I can't help myself.

Grandma Ida and Grandpa Rick

About a week ago we got a somewhat surprise visit from Grandma and Grandpa which got us out f bed after a bit of a rough night. We knew they were coming just not exactly when so we were a little unprepared but happy to see them.
Enjoying the company and getting a first peek.
Although he was a little uneasy at first, Rick's Grandpa instincts kicked in right away.
Like all Grandmas, Ida fell in love the second he hit her arms. She was mesmerized, but who can blame her?

One week old Midnight (or later) Snack

The night that Matthew was one week old, Aaron came into the bedroom during one of the late night feedings to take a few pictures of his "sweet baby boy".
This is me sitting on the bed (I have yet to actually get under the covers since we came home, just too hard with the inscision pain) feeding Matthew with the feeding tube attached to my pinky finger.
Here I am taking a tiny nap while he eats. I have had a tendency to nod off during the late night feedings. I understand this is a fairly common practice among parents of really little ones.
A close up of the finger feeding. If you look closely you can see his little hand wrapped around my finger.
Licking his lips between syringefulls.
Must be a burp on the way.
A look of satisfaction.
