Race Day 3

This last Saturday they were off to the races again.  I didn't get there until the final race so all we have is an end of day photo.  Matthew got third, Alex second and Daddy third. But this time the boys got 'Merica flag trophies!!

Race Day 2

In preparation for further exploits at the BMX track Daddy invested in some jerseys for the boys.
They put them on immediately to practice in.
Alex (in his new jersey) simulating lining up at the start gate.
They loved them so much they wore them to school and daycare the next day.
The following Saturday Alex and Daddy went to the races.
Matthew stayed home to play with his friends and just generally not BMX.
Alex won a trophy for third place
And arrived home completely exhausted but holding tightly to his winnings.

Tickets

Gloves are important for racing so if you fall you don't tear up your hands.  This is a lesson Matthew learned the hard way.
Alex showing me he has learned how to put his gloves on all by himself.
While practicing at Grandma's one afternoon, Matthew took it upon himself to police the track.
This is Alex taking moment to read the ticket he was issued for...
Stopping on the track.
Then Daddy got one for speeding.
Safety first people, safety first.

First Race Day

On April 30 was opening race day at the Seatac BMX track in Burien.
Me explaining to Alex that he can't cross the track when other people are riding on it.

Matthew posing with K .
He is one of the little guys in Alex's moto (race group). K is two and super fast!
(if you are reading this right away, I will edit it with the kids actual name when Alex wakes up)
Even Daddy is racing.
Alex getting ready to line up.
Alex and the rest of the boys in the moto lined up ready to go.
The little ones who are riding strider bikes (no pedals) only do the last half of the track.
We found out thee are the best bandages to use after Daddy took a really nasty tumble.

They do two races then take a short break while results are tallied then there is a third and final race to figure out finishing places.
In the end Daddy and Alex got first time racer trophies and Matthew got a second place and a first time racer trophy.  It was a crazy hectic afternoon but also a lot of fun.  I know for sure Alex will be going back, Matthew is on the fence but he really likes the trophies!

BMX

This spring Aaron decided that Matthew was old enough to participate in BMX racing and if he thought Alex was going to be left out, he was sorely mistaken.
The beginning. Matthew receives a new race bike for his birthday.
There was much practicing in anticipation of the big event.
Helmets were purchased and tested, bikes were adjusted and balance and braking was perfected.

Grade One and Two Concert

One Tuesday evening, we all congregated to watch the first and second graders perform.
Luckily Matthew was on the end where we could see him clearly
Not so luckily he was also rather far from the choir director and there fore rather distracted. (shocking, I know)

Alex waited expectantly
I was a medley of Beatles tunes (accompanied by kazoos) and Dr. Seuss songs.
It was what we all expected but we were all proud as punch regardless.

Star of the Week

In Matthew's grade one class everyone gets to be Star of the Week.
It is their chance to stand up in front of the class and talk about themselves.
I was lucky it was done on a Monday and Mrs. Bass moved the presentation up so I could watch before I was done with my volunteering.
He was so proud in his umbrella hat and kilt.
And as we all know he is never afraid of the spotlight.
The papers he filled out as a guide while he was presenting.

Safety Glasses

What you need to have if you are going to do some digging in Grandma's front yard.

Mommy Gets Fancy

At the last minute I was invited to the PTSA charity auction at the neighbourhood country club.  I had only met the person who invited me once and knew no one else who was going.
I got me a fancy dress, new shoes and clutch, got my hair did and off I went!
Sat at a table with some really fun people.
And danced until my feet were too sore to walk.  Can't wait to go again next year!

New Sweaters from Nana!!

Busker

On this lovely sunny, warm afternoon Matthew decided he was going to go make some money.

Unfortunately we have a very low volume of traffic on our street so there was little money to be made.
