An Afternoon in the Back Yard

Happy Canada Day

Father's Day

I've taken so long to do this post because I knew it was going to be a doozy.
On Father's Day we hopped on the ferry for Vashon Island to enjoy the day on the beach
Alex really wanted to be outside on the ferry but the wind kept taking his breath away and he kept gulping to get more.
As soon as we hit the beach the critter count started.
First in the bag, a crab shell

 Then a anemone.
We found a great spot to stop and have a snack.
Matthew and Daddy found live little crabs under the rocks
which Matthew really wanted to hold until he actually held one
Alex was super happy he got to chew on a giant carrot
Matthew and Daddy would head down to the water to look for critters
while Alex, the carrot and I hung out at the picnic spot.
when a good critter was found they would run back up to us
so we could get the full experience.
Even Alex got to touch them, until he tried to eat them.

After the critters, they played on this tree

 then chased bubbles
and watched them float down the beach.
The long walk back to the car.

For Bravery

A few weeks ago we were on our way to daycare when Matthew noticed a turbaned man walking down the street.

He said "There's an asian person." Don't ask me where he got that word or how he might know that "asian" people exist but that's what he said.

I in turn explained that the man was probably middle eastern or Indian and that thing on his head was called a turbin.

"What's that for?"

"Well its a special hat that Musilim's wear to show respect and modesty." Then there was short explanation of what a Muslim is then Matthew said

"I think it's for bravery"

"You know what kiddo? I think you're right"

Fabric Paint

When we moved in I bought black out curtains for the boy's room.  They were a boring beige so Auntie Kathy suggested we paint them with fabric paint.
Since it was her idea, she came over on a lovely sunny day to help out.
 We started with hand prints.

 Alex needed a little help.
Then I decided that Alex should do some serious body painting
 He really wasn't into it
Matthew was next and apparently the paint was cold.
But his body imprints were great!
Before long Alex was covered in paint but really happy

In the end we made quite a spectacle of ourselves and a couple of the neighbourhood girls stopped by to find out what we were up to and add their own touches.

A snack in the backyard after some clean up.
 And airplane rides.
It was a wonderful afternoon but a word to the wise...fabric paint doesn't wash off.
